OT1P – Returned callsign

OT1P – Returned callsign

I decided to return the vanity call OT1P which was assigned to me some years ago. I’m not really active and not doing contest anymore therefore it was just a real vanity issue.
It won’t be available for the next 5 years, perhaps by then I will change my mind and ask for it again.
I will honor my QSL up to the 31st of December 2015.

ON0MON back online

ON0MON back online

The repeater is back operational and working perfectly. There are no more Raspberry Pi for me; even if the repeater is experimental and subject to outages, it should not be for an unreliable hardware. Raspberry Pi are good for playing with and for home applications, not for a 24/7 repeater.

The server is now a Intel Xeon running at 3GHz with “just” 4GB Ram and a 64bit Operating System.

Ah… just because you spent your time reading this post, here is a teaser: soon there will be some big changes, so now, more than before, stay tuned! 🙂

Unexpected outage – Work in progress

Unexpected outage – Work in progress

The first Raspberry PI broke a week before the winter holidays, luckily I had a second Raspberry PI and so by simply swapping the memory card I was able to restore the repeater in a couple of minutes.
Today the second Raspberry Pi decided to stop working so I’m moving everything on a spare computer I have but it will be based on Windows due to some hardware incompatibilities with Linux.

So, ON0MON is work in progress, expecting to be back no later than tonight, 1st Feb 2015.

Stay tuned.

100% Service UP

100% Service UP

Holidays are over and everything is back operational.
I’m considering to shutdown this website, quite useless as there are no real feedback and no real benefits and move to the more common Facebook platform. Twitter accounts are already setup…

Hey you two people (spammers excluded) out there that are reading this blog time by time: if one day it will be unreachable try again after a couple of days, if still unresponsive means I shutdown the website. 🙂

IZ7ZAK… oh shit, another call…

IZ7ZAK… oh shit, another call…

Efficiency is a problem of a person, not of an organization.

I sent a registered mail on October 24, 2012 to the Italian Ministry of Economic Development requesting the release of an Italian Ham Radio Call Sign and on December 5, 2012 with Protocol Number 93xxxxx <last digit removed on purpose> I have been granted the following call sign:

It’s summer time… STRROOKE!

It’s summer time… STRROOKE!

It’s summer time for the Northern Hemisphere and it’s time for holiday.
No, I’m not announcing my QRT or the activation of a rare island somewhere, I just want to highlight the number of STROKE you can find spotted.

After almost 30 year of Ham Radio I’m still not so used to the STROKE before the callsign.
It’s nice to hear Germans spending their holidays in Greece having the SV-STROKE before their callsign…. good deal! 😉

Yeah, I know, it’s a bullshit what I’m writing in this post, but there are 25 degrees in South Belgium today and I feel bored…

Happy Holidays !!!!!!

oooohhh YEAH!

New call sign… Oscar Tango UAN Papa.

And again the incredible professional performance of the BIPT.
Requested via email the callsign on May 23 and received the hardcopy in my mailbox on May 25… should I comment on this?

Anyway, I’m thinking to use this call while I’m portable/mobile and continue with my ON8CB for static at home use.

I will see.
