When I bought the repeater the first thing I was looking around was the “how-to” setup and connect the combination of DR-1X + HRI-200 to the Wires-X Network; What I discovered is that Yaesu is NOT ready (yet) for such combination. After an initial big disappointment, I start to search for similar experiences and noticed that most of the repeater’s sysops managed to configure it but none of them, as far as I know, shared the methodology they used to have the repeater configured to inter-operate with the Wires-X infrastructure.
In strict cooperation with Max ON4GXY (aka IW0GXY) and the final support of Raffaello (IZ0QWM) we managed to have a kind of working structure which means the repeater is able to send and receive from the internet and also interconnect to other rooms/repeaters.
Here are some screenshots of our configuration, some small changes happened in the meantime such as Voice Beacon instead of CW for the digital part, in fact the repeater is broadcasting its own beacon in CW so, to do not confuse the two beacons and (remotely) be ensured that both parts, repeater and Wires-X, are working, we decided to distinguish the repeater beacon from the Wires-X beacon by switching to the embedded voice. Another small change is the removal of the tag on the feature that re-joins automatically the repeater to the own room after an amount of time; for this feature we noticed that the repeater is acting “weird” some times when re-joins the rooms by cutting the transmission in progress. Users are still able to join any room using the DTMF feature.
Please note that all the features which are available exclusively via digital connection are NOT supported by this configuration. We all are looking forward to receive from Yaesu an update to the DR-1x firmware.
(Versions available at the time of this post is 1.00Z, Wires-X Software Version 1.060).
DR-1x configuration is: RX AUTO / TX FIX FM (Other configurations are NOT working properly)
