OT1P – Returned callsign

OT1P – Returned callsign

I decided to return the vanity call OT1P which was assigned to me some years ago. I’m not really active and not doing contest anymore therefore it was just a real vanity issue.
It won’t be available for the next 5 years, perhaps by then I will change my mind and ask for it again.
I will honor my QSL up to the 31st of December 2015.

4002 Kilometers

4002 Kilometers

We travelled Four Thousand ans Two Kilometers in (almost) two weeks.

Trip timetable was not scheduled so we departed from Belgium direction France, the idea was to go to Italy without passing through Switzerland. Another aim was to use just National and City roads trying to avoid highways/motorways and toll charges. We succeeded in 3/4 of the trip, in Italy it is impossible to use National roads apart from the SS16 from Foggia to Bari.

Equipment installed in the truck:

– Yaesu FT-857D
– ATAS-100A

Cushcraft R-9

Cushcraft R-9

Trip to the States, as usual, as every year… Trip to San Diego, as usual as every year… Visit at the Ham Radio Outlet, as usual, as every year….I spent another huge amount of money, as usual and as every year.

This year I bought a Cushcraft R9, great antenna, perfect replacement for my Cushcraft R8, adding the 80m band and some extra changes compare to it, great deal… but when I received it, I realized that I have no space for such antenna, so I sold it…

I should be curious on how it performs but honestly I’m not really missing it.

Mobile & Portable Station

Mobile & Portable Station

OT1P station was active as mobile and portable during the period of 27 July – 14 August from different location on the western coast of France.
Callsign for the event was: F/OT1P/M or F/OT1P/P
Operated by Basilio (ON8CB) and Michel (ON4KDE) we started the operations during the European HF Championship Contest where 29 stations replied to our calls.
A station not in the contest we connected and had a long QSO is VA2PW (Peter) with 58 signal report.
The 2nd of August, during a preliminary attempt, we got in touch with two stations and the results are really nice: S52WW (Damian) and W8ERN (Angelo) replied both with 59 signal report;

The 5th of August from Veules Les Roses, we also contacted several stations including IT9WKU, OH3OJ/P, EQ1MM, HZ1TT, IK6BGJ, RA6WY.

On the 7th of August from Gonneville several interesting stations replied despite the weird propagation: IZ6BXV, G0VA, M0BVF, M0BFV, 2O12L, GB2012OLY.

Equipment:

  • Kenwood TS-450
  • High Sierra Screwdriver antenna installed on a lamp tripod with some random radials
  • 25 Amps switching power supply

A nice experience we plan to repeat in the future…

I’m NOT going to send any QSL for this event, if you wish to receive a QSL please contact me and I’ll be really pleased to send one directly.

OT1P

OT1P

oooohhh YEAH!

New call sign… Oscar Tango UAN Papa.

And again the incredible professional performance of the BIPT.
Requested via email the callsign on May 23 and received the hardcopy in my mailbox on May 25… should I comment on this?

Anyway, I’m thinking to use this call while I’m portable/mobile and continue with my ON8CB for static at home use.

I will see.
